I've got a 92'TA with the stock rear axle and drum brakes.
I've picked up a GM Dana44 performance rear axle, and will be getting Baer disc brakes for the new axle, so in effect will be going to have a drum to disc brake conversion.
Has anyone installed a Dana44 or done a drum to disc conversion?
Are there any other parts needed for this swap, like new master cylinder or propotioning valve?
Are there any conversion kits out there with needed parts for the drum to disc conersion.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx.

I'm in the process of installing a 44 in my Formula. My car came with PBR calipers from the factory so I can't help there. I do have some other info that might be of assistance.
If Baer doesn't supply backing plates with their kit then get GM parts #'s 10136853 and 10136854. These are the factory plates for a 90-92 Fbody with rear disks. Turns out the 10 bolt has the same bolt pattern as the 44. They run a little over $15 per side retail.
Get a Precision 372 or equivalent U-joint from your local parts store and order two GM part # 1358983 strap/bolt kits (about $10 for the pair) to connect your driveshaft to the 44. Hope this helps.

Speedo gears go in the transmission, not the rear end.

i just happened to be browsing through and i saw you guys posting about the dana44. i have an old 1966 scout that ive been kinda looking for a dana 44 setup for, i was just wondering where you guys got yours, and about how much i can pick a setup up for (housing, ring, pinion, axles, ... the works) thanks.
I picked up the Dana44 from SLP online for $1695.00
It was a complete axle assembly (no brakes), with 3.54 gears
(or ratio of your choice.) and has the Dana traction-loc diffential.
I bought it last year, so I don't know if they still have em, but you can check at www.slponline.com or 732-349-2109

As far as I knew the speedo gears had some connection to the axle/axle ratio and tire sizes, so I assume these are important in order to get the right speedo gears?

Speedo gear selection has everything to do with the rear end ratio and tire size and nothing to do with the type of rear end.

you'll need a new proportioning valve and master cylinder. Going to disc requires that you send less pressure to the rear because the have a smaller fluid capacity than the drums
