Rearend Question

My Mechanic say that I have some oddball rear end. Like some austrailian unit that gm used only in like '82. Anybody know anything bout this? Oh, another question, Will a present day 7.5" 10 bolt out of say a 2000 and up camaro bolt right into my car? Meaning is it the same width, do all the suspension parts match up, ext.

Thanks,
Marty

Yes and no.

The rearend will fit from 82-97, same exact chassis.

I do not know exactly about width fitment, but I do know it is wider.

good luck!

yeah the rear end out of a newer f body will fit, BUT its wider and your tires will stick out a lil bit. The good thing is if your planning on running 4th gens rims you wont need spacers for the rear, just front. If you use 4th gen rims or the outset or whatever it is the 4th gen rims have, the tires wont stick out

If you trully have the Aussie rear it is what is refered to as a 9 bolt. www.9bolt.com has info & sells parts for this rear. It is not that uncommon in 3rd Gens.

How'd you end up with a 9 bolt in an '82 car? They didn't put them in until '87 or so...
