Removing u-joints......

Hey guys, I just found out from my mechanic that I need new U-joints. He wants to charge me 230 dollars to replace them. Now the parts from auto zone cost only 15 dollars. So I'm paying him for a LOT of labor. How hard is it to change the u joints? Would it be very hard to do in my front yard on jacks? Or would I need a lift? THanks if you guys can help me! Eric
