speedo gears affecting lockup in OD?

I had my rearend gears changed to 3:73s but I have not changed the 2 speedo gears in the trans yet. While Im driving in OD with the lockup engaged A.) the lockup appears to occur really early...sometimes as low as 35 or 40 mph and B.) the converter does not want to unlock during acceleration in OD and will only unlock when the trans downshifts into 3rd -or so it seems. could all of this be related to having the wrong gears in the trans telling the car it is going faster than it really is?

also, during acceleration in OD, I can tap the brake to unlock the converter but it will re-lock almost immediately after no matter how hard Im on the gas. Seems like it wants to stay locked in OD. Im sure that romping on the gas in OD with a TC that wont unlock isnt good for the transmission either.

This may not be the answer, but perhaps try checking the TV cable adjustment. It you give it more line pressure the kickdown will be more responsive and hopefully drop you back down to 3rd.

Your VSS controls your torque convertor locking function. Your VSS is reading a higher mph than you are really running, and your ecm is locking up your torque converter when it thinks you are going the right speed, when, in actuality, you are going like 20 mph. Change your speedo gears
