Unfortunatly it will not. You are using a stock flywheel? Because you cannot use the flexplate that's on the car now. BUt the starter nose is broader on a auto.

yes i will be getting a flywheel from an f-body,

when you say broader do you mean that i will have clearance issues with the bell housing, or dust shield?, if its just the shield its not a probablem cuz i don't have one and will probly becustom making one, and if its the bell housing, is it something a little grinding can fix?

What I mean is the auto starter nose is way to broad to fit into the manual bellhousing. I don't think you can grind it enough to get it to fit without damaging the starter. my manual starter was 65 bucks.

why make a dust shield, because i did not know you could get one new for $5, and because i have access to scrap sheet metal,

well i guess i may have a starter for sale then, its only like 3months old thats the bad part

new starter

i've never heard of this, it should be a starter for any 153 tooth flywheel. the 400's and a 383 would yuse a 168 tooth

If it's like the T56 the starter won't fit because the opening on the bellhousing isn't large enough. A little work with a diegrinder to enlarge the opening and you'll save yourself the time and frustration of hunting a starter down that will work.

I JUST did the swap and the auto starter will NOT work. I had to buy a manual starter which is thinner in the nose area. The auto starter will NOT fit in the provided area of the manual bellhousing.

thats what i was thinking, i guess, i'm just gonna have to bolt the starter and bell housing on the engine and see what i can do, unfortunately the engine is on a stand , but i guess i can hang it from the hoist

according to advanced auto, in 84 both auto and manual are the same starter, then beginning in 85 or 86, they started using a different starter, so like i said before, i'm gonna try it

Well, I JUST did the swap to the T-56. Everyone said the same thing about mine. Have to get a different starter. Well, with a little creativity I saved myself the money for a new starter by grinding the bellhousing out to enlarge the opening that the starter nose goes into. I imagine the T-5 bellhousing can be made to work the same way.

one and the same, i kinda got lucky in that we got a donor car, to get parts from, problem is it was a 4 cylinder, so i still gotta figure out what to do for the clutch, once i get the flywheel, basically all i have left to get is a clutch, then i can get my baby back on the road, i miss it already and i've only had it apart a week
