T-5 Tranny swap

i know you guys are probably tired of hearing questions about this but i have one. My car is a 91 RS and has the electric speedometer. I was wondering how that affects the tranny swap. Do i need to get a T-5 specific to that model year car so the electric speedo will work properly? Or does the electric speedo stuff hook right up to the any T-5?

Simple... if the T5 has an electronic sensor in it it will work. If it doesn't then you need to get one for it. It can be an 84 model for all you care if it has that electronic sensor. Again if it doesn't, just swap it out.

Are you saying the speedo gets its signal from the VSS?

The electronic sensor (VSS) plugs into the trans exactly where the speedo gear is. The mechanical gear housing and the VSS are completely interchangeable. I am driving a 91 trans around in my 83 right now for example.

All you need is the electronic style of speedo gear to go on the VSS with the correct number of teeth to match up to your rear end ratio and tire size.
