4-speed
hey guys i have a t-5 now and i am puttin in a 350 so i am worried about the tranny.i don;t have the money for a tremece or 6-speed. now is it possible to getsay an m-20,m-22. or sum kinda 4 speed for my car? would it bolt right up to my belhouseing and everything? also would i need a diff drive shaft and all that crap? cause i am only lookin to spend liek 800 at the most. thanks guys. oh and i am drivin this on the street so i can;t have the sifter be like 10 inches one way or sumtin
if you have a m22 sell it and it;ll pay for a tremac, or a big part of it. the first few years of the third gens had 4 speeds, you'd need everything from one, mechanical clutch, bell, and all to make one work.

It will bolt right up to your bell housing but it won't sit on your crossmember. Since they never made a M22 for this chassis, you won't find one that wil bolt right in.
Once in a while you see someone selling a T-10 for these cars. That would be the ticket. It will bolt directly in with you clutch, hydraulics, crossmember, etc. Hurst still lists a shifter for it on their web site, although actually obtaining one could be quite a different matter than just looking up a part number.
Don't waste your time on a Saginaw, it is dung. Most of the 4-speed 82s were Saginaw. Look for a Warner from a 82 if you're intent on doing this.
You would probably need a 82 drive shaft, or at least some drive shaft work, because the T-10s usually used in Z28s and T/As usually had the T-400 sized output shaft and used the Spicer u-joint instead of the Saginaw one.
I've never heard of a M-20, but then I've only been driving 4-speed cars for ..... well, never mind that, I've only been buildign 4-speeds for about 30 years though. I've also been building T5s since about the time they came out and people started tearing them up. I'd recommend not worrying about it for the time being, try using what you've got and not beating on it too hard (no clutch dumps, no speed shifting), it may last longer than you would expect.

An M20 is a wide ratio, and very good transmission at that. Its not as strong as an M21 or M22 but I personally would rather have one then an M22.

well i do plan on usein the t-5 till it goes, i bought some redline pil for it to maybe help it out a little. well i will not be speed shiftin but i will shift as fast as i can. and for dumpin the clutch..... i am gettin my license in liek a month so i will probably be stupid lol. well with this t-10 how do u tell if its the saginaw or wutever it is? also do these go pretty cheap? and how much torque are they rated out cause with my 350 it should be aroudn 320 horse 350 torque. its pretty mild. but i will have traction mods
