Best Rear/Driveshaft for drag/street
Best Rear/Driveshaft for drag/street
I just swapped my 305 from my 84 camaro with a 425+hp 350. currently i am still breaking it in. I have locked up my rear (3.10)
and rebuilt my 700 R4. But before I go hard on it, i want at least a much stronger rear/driveline. I've heard that Alluminum are less prone to blow U joints. But I really have limited knowledge when it comes to driveline. Any advice or warnings would be great

thats alot of power you have.
you probably want an aluminum drive shaft, and then for the rear end a moser 12 bolt.

aluminum will fail from fatuge, steel won't. if you didn't want a 9" why didn't you say so. you should of ask for the best gm rear. still trying to figure out what best is or best for what. buy a 12 bolt then, weight is less than a 9" and the gears are a lot easier to change, plus the c clips are pretty much bullet proof.

Very few drag cars use an aluminum driveshaft. It flexes too much.
When I had mine made, they made it out of 3" x .083 wall steel.
Get a driveshaft and tranny/diff yokes for Spicer 1350 series u-joints.

blow my torque converter?
thanks for the advice on the allum. driveshaft. I woulda went allum had I been told otherwise. One last question. My friend was telling me, since I have a 700 R4 I have to be very careful with my overdrive, otherwise I could blow plates in my torque converter. Is this due to freeway use? (I.E. Slamming the gas in or to O.D? As u can tell, this is my first extensive use with driveline.
