Stock 5 speed to T56 swap - Speedo?
Stock 5 speed to T56 swap - Speedo?
Hi All,
First let me explain myself. I do not have a camaro, yes I do like them (what smart person doesn't?). Yes I am doing this swap except it has a little twist on it. I have a 1990 S-10 with the stock 5 speed. I have a 4.3 so the T56 bolts right up to it. I have been talking to a fair amount of people that have done this swap in s-10s except none have done it in an older s-10. They referred me to this site because the thrid gen camaro wiring/speedo is very close if nott he same style as my S10.
So here is my question, after I have the swap all done how do I fix my speedo and make it accurate again? I have heard Dakota Digital makes a box or something, how exactly does this work if this is the case? Any ballpark price to what the box costs?
Thanks,
Scott

the box is $80

It's good if you have an electric speedo. If you have a mechanical speedo all the box can do is give your ECM the correct speed info. If you have a mechanical speedo your best bet is to convert it to an electronic speedo.

If it's afirebird of trans am then you have an electronic speedo and shouldn't have any problems using the box. It will take care of all your speedo needs.
Hey,
Well it is not a firebird or transam....it is a 1990 S-10.
I am doing this swap in my truck possibly and you guys seem to have the experinece with the speedos and getting them right.
Can anyone say for sure if this box will work since it is an S10?
Thanks,
Scott

You have a 90 s-10 so I THINK you have an eletric speedo which means you have wires that go to the speedo instead of a cable
so if you have an eletric speedo the box will work great if you have a cable speedo I hope some that has do it will help you
when you get it in the I want to see how far the shifter comes up to see if it is uncomfortable or not I dont THINK it would if you have bucket seats the bench seat sits up kinda high
and I'm real tired right now so dont laugh if i spelled something wrong or it doesnt make sense
