Need some tranny work advice...

I just found out that the front seal in the tranny is leaking, and it has to come out to be fixed. Just not sure how soon I should fix it, doesn't look like it is going away. Got some nice puddles in my garage after I get home.

Things is, I planned (someday) to put in an aftermarket stall converter. I read the Vigilante's are real good for the street. My mechanic says don't go to high in stall speed, say no more than 2200. I have 3.73s now, and with the 3.06 first gear in the 700R4, you don't need a real high stall.

Just not sure if I want to get into this now, or wait a year. Car sits in garage from dec to april.

TIA, for any opinions.

The front pump will have to come out, replace the front pump bushing with a teflon from 1993 & later along with the new seal. With 3.73's you can go to a 2,400-2,600 rpm stall lockup. Remember the lower the rear end gears (higher numerically) the higher the stall can be used safely. The Vigilante 9.5" LU or the A.C.T. 9.5" lockup will work out very well for your application.

Thanks Pro, for your response. You kind of confirmed what my mechanic allready told me, about the pump and replacing that bushing. That's something he allways does with the tranny out.

Here is some more background on my car: Last fall had this same shop put in the Trans-go reprogramming kit and corvette servo. But that was with my stock 2.77 gears. It worked real good, but I seemed to loose some traction. Now this spring had another shop put in the 3.73s, as well as the speedo gears. Just recently had the tranny shop adjust the 1-2 shift to redline, and lighten up the part throttle shifting 1-2. It really jerked the car, a bit too much for the street. But WOT was real quick. He replaced some other seals as well, since I had some other leaks.

I don't like these oil leaks, so just might get it fixed up soon. I still can get second spinning pretty easy. I am quite happy with it now.

My engine has had all the normal basic, easy cheap mods, plus I do my own PROMs. I just don't bother listing them all in my sig. Future plans include headers, then maybe cam/heads. But for now block, cam and heads are stock.

Where can you get the Vigilante 9.5" convertor? How much $$ are we talking about?

The "Vigilante" sells for $719.00 & the A.C.T. $565.00, both come with a one year warranty and a free stall change.

Wow, that's more than I thought. Just may have to wait this one out till next year. Where can you get these converters? Do you sell them, Pro?
