new tranny tv cable???

I jsut put in a new 700r4 and i have set the tv cable by opening the trhottle WOT. THEN, I push the tv cable back towards the fire wall as far as it will go. Then, I lock the D clip. When I set it like this, the car shifts really hard at part throttle and hands on the gear in 1.st and 2nd. The thing that concerns me is that WOT, the 2-3 shift is not firm. BUT, when i loosen the cable a bit (1/8inch) the tranny seems to shift OK? I loosen the cable so the tranny does not hang in 1st or 2nd at part throttle and it seems to shift better? IS something worng????? HELP! PLEASE.

Is your induction system stock? If not yo may have the wrong geometry. If it is OK then if you followed the right steps; To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the 'D' shaped lock button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting (The black housing that the metal cable is in will move forward). Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the 'D' button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can (putting maximum tension on the metal cable) and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable casing so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does' then it may be that the 1-2 accumulator spring is broken (not uncommon) and that is why 1-2 is harsh. This WAS a GM Cable, right?

Transflexio,

The new cable is a universal cable. The D button is a round looking clamp in a cylinder shape, almost like a C, not a D. Anyway, I'm working with it day by day trying to set it just right. Right now, when the cable is out 100%, the tranny shifts super hard @ part throttle & seems to slip at wot? When i back the cable off, maybe 1/8-1/4 inch, it shifts much better. It doesn't hold on to the 1-2 &2-3 shift as long while in part throttle & the shifts @ wot are firmer. & I have the stock intake, less the slp runners & ported intake.

Thank You for your help!

when @ wot when the cable is out 100%, my 1-2 is hard! the 2-3 is mushy. Here ii where my shifts seem to hang at part throttle and my 1-2 is firm and 2-3 is mushy. I adjust the cable to give it about 1/4-1/8inch slack and the shifts firm up while in WOT in both 1-2 and 2-3 AND the car seems to shift better in part throttle? Sorry for repeating myself, kindof hard to type with a 5mo. old in my arms as she's reaching for the keys! THanks again!:hail:

You should not be "tuning" it. If you follow the procedure with a GM cable you should be set. I can't say for sure with a universal cable. With the cable full, are the part throttle and minimum throttle shifts OK or are they late? If they are OK then you are chasing your tail adjusting the cable. Sloppy 2-3? Good chance there could be a problem still with the tranny. Firm 1-2? could just ahve a broken accumulator spring giving you that affect.
