2nd to 3rd shift
2nd to 3rd shift
i put a corvette servo and .500 boost valve in my trans and it made a huge difference in shifting on motor but on n20 it still shifts from second to third slower than i like . looking at the graph on datamaster 1rst to 2nd is a sharp drop off but 2nd to 3rd is slightly tapered as the rpms drop . what parts control that shift ?

Line pressure and valve body. Depending on torque the trans will cushion the 2-3 shift to eliminate breakage at the peak of the torque curve. The only correct way to do the job is to recalibrate the valve body for the desired result. By installing a larger servo piston you unbalance the pressures. The governor spool valve moves at a certain rate while the servo piston is generating more pressure, hence an unbalanced situation. The only way to correct this is modifing the valve body and or seperator plate. This is where you need the advise of LEO, or another transmission technician. 92 boxes are pretty good, as they incorporate all the latest mods GM Powertrain offered.
TheCorvette servo & the .500 main boost valve will help, but if you are going to leave 3rd gear as is (additional 3-4 clutches, etc.) I would add the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit or call me as to what modifications need to be done to resovle this (possibly). This kit or my modifications increase oil to the 3-4 clutches by about 250-300%, this should help out for awhile. Let me know?
