Cold the transmission works fine, my problems start once the transmission is hot.

Started with slipping from 3rd to 2nd. In short time it began slipping from 2nd to 1st. Now I'm experiencing the full spectrum of problems no shifts, late shifts, and slipping to lower gears. Again these problems only occur when hot. The gears themselves don't appear to be slipping, i.e. all gears hold fine in WOT, it's just staying or getting into the gear that is the problem.

It's been suggested my problems lie within vaccum or my governor. I have checked vaccum, although low, everything appears to be fine. I have pulled the governor, measured the dia, which is .799-.80. I have not checked the case bore.

Two questions:

What else should I look for?

Would installing a Transgo Full Manual kit, bypass the problems, allowing me to gain additional time with this unit?

My preference is not to rebuild just yet, this trans is in a midly modified '79 Corvette.

I thnks u need to rebuild. srry thats not what u wanted tohear but Ive been there done that sucks.

 

A leaking valve body or broken/disentergrated valve body gaskets can cause the problems you decribe.

 

SSC, If I pull off the valve body and replace the gasket, what else should I be looking for in there?
