general motors is nuts.......

i went to get some bolts today since a few people have said that the flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolts, are special.

i was fine with the flywheel bolts. $1.50 each, not to bad, so i ordered them

then he told me the price on the little pressure plate bolts,

$6.80 EACH... the only way that is reasonable is if you get all 6 bolts for that amount. he claimed that the price was per bolt, i told him to stick it

someone tell me he was lying please,

or tell me where i can get those bolts, i already looked through the ARP listings, in my summit catalog and they don't have them

any help is greatly appreciated, and one more thing, i need the dust shield/clutch inspection cover, for my v8 t5 bell housing, any body has one email me, or do i dare to ask about that item at the dealer

On that subject the same kinda pressure plate bolts for my friends '88 Accord were $8 a pop.

So we walked around to the shop at the same dealer and asked one of the mechanics who gladly handed us the eight bolts we needed for free. So we bought him a case of beer and all was good...

A set of them from Mr Gasket is about $10 or $12.

Like ede said, they're special bolts, they are hardened and have a shoulder of a specific diameter that centers the clutch on the flywheel properly, DO NOT attempt to rig it by using regular bolts, you WILL have trouble, possibly up to and including losing feet. After all, your right foot is less than 6" from those bolts; can you predict which way that pressure plate is going to fly when the bolts let go at 5000 RPM?

You can get ARP Pressure Plate Bolts (Complete Set) for $6.95 at Summit! They're 170,000 psi bolts.
#ARP-130-2201

GM Parts Pricing is way out of hand!
Get the ARP's , they're better anyway.
I have them on my 92 RS.

Part # 12337973 Flywheel bolt is $3.48 each
Part # 838653 PP bolt is $1.71 each from City Chevy in Charlotte.

I got screwed on them at that price. I could have got the flywheel form the Pontiac for $1.99 each.

you think 6.80 is crazy for a bolt? you only need 6...
try buying disk brake bolts that hold the calipers to the bracket..

You're suprised that gm tries to rip you off? These are the same people that still charge almost $1k each for replacement t-tops on cars that at the youngest are rolling up on 11 years old. Get what you have too from them, but try everybody else first if you can.

I had a similar experience at GM I wanted to buy screws for my afpr and they wanted $17 a per screw. I got a whole box at a bolt store for 22.
