Pump Bushing
Pump Bushing
Just want to see what everybody thinks: Bronze or Babbit? I picked up some "Duralife" bushings, but unfortunatly, they are butt-cut and not interlocking fingered. I have heard some bad things about butt-cut bushings and I'm afraid to use them. So now my choices are Bronze or Babbit.
You've heard a lot of nonsense!, why do you think GM went to the teflon bushing, to stop the spinning of the bushing. I have used 100's and have sold 1,000's without any problems. All bushings many years ago were made butt-cut, problem was in installing them, not anything else. I have never heard of a teflon bushing spinning, but have seen babbit many a time in earlier units. Problem with babbit if the fluid gets hot or the fluid gets thin, it trys to weld itself to the hub, that is why you have to "stake them". "Do not" stake the teflon bushing, if the bushing does not install with some resistance, then use a little loctite between bushing & housing. I use the same type front pump teflon bushing in the 700R4 reverse input drum, and I install a Dupont teflon bushing in the extension housing. I wish they made them for more applications. You must use the OEM Sealed Power Filtran filter for best results, they are available and are common in the aftermarket.
Hmmmm, thanks for clearing that up! I have the Kent-Moore J-34196-12 Bushing tool, so I guess installing them won't be a problem. I think I'll order some newer 4L60-E bushings and compare them to the "Duralife" and see if they are the same bushing or not, I'm kinda curious.
