auto to t-56, 2 questions

hi all, i am working problems out. Lets say i convert a 92 z28 auto to a t-56. 1, i need to mount the master cylinder to the firewall, but this has to go in the right place, are there pre-made marks on the firewall from GM were the master cylinder. if not how do i know exactly were to cut the hole for the M. C. and the 2 other holes for the bracket. also, what about the pedles, do i have to cut more holes for the clutch pedel. my second question is spedometer related. after the switch is complete, will i have to change the gears in the spedo to make it accurate?
thanks

Hey, this is Mike here in Dover, De. Just completed an auto to T56 swap in a 91 Z-28 350 TPI. My car, under the carpet, there is the carpet padding. It had 3 pre-stamped cut-outs in it as if it would have been installed in a T 5 car. I used those for a template and it worked out great. There was nothing on the firewall, as far as stampings or things like that. Those are the only holes you have to make, other than the one for the shifter in the center console. The old auto shifter bracket is a pain to remove. I used a air chisle and then a sawzall for the hole. The speed sensor is way different. I have a SGI-5 box from Dakota Digital and am having problems wiring it in. Have it in but can't get the right signal out of it yet. I'm pretty sure you have an electric speedo, so I think that might be what you have to do. There are a lot of postings on this site as well as other sites on how to do this. IMHO I used 3rd gen pedals out of a Firebird and they fit great. Good luck and have fun.
Mike

I used the 4th gen pedals. Once I had the pedals in the car, you'll see where the holes need to be. Just mount it up and drill them out. No guess work.

The clutch master goes underneath and off to the side of the brake master. Many people said they "had to" remove the brake master to do the job. With 4th gen pedals in hand, I had to cut the gas off the main braket (Re-use the 3rd gens one) and drill the 4 holes where it bolts on to the brake master out to the same size (1 or 2 were smaller and made it a PIA) Take out the 4 master bolts and don't forget the 1 that is mounting the deal straight up into the dash. Push the brake master forward so the studs don't stick out and fandangle the assm. into place. after mounting the 5 bolts and brake rod I drilled the two small holes for the clutch mount from the iniside 3/8" and then hogged the bigger hole using a bi-metal hole saw and a die grinder with a carbide. The hard part was getting the bolts to mount the clutch master (I used hex head and faced them inward I also mounted the fluid res. on the side of the relay braket [TPI])

Basically, If you get the 5 other mount points bolted up, it will 'show' you where the other 3 holes are supposed to go.

So basicly, as long as i mount the pedels in the right location, i just line the master cylander up with the plunger at the end of the clutch pedel. and everything else will line up right...using 3rd gen pedels off and 87 rs. also, what about the lock that only lets the car start in park, ive heard i have to re-wire it to make it a neutral safty switch...is the rewireing or just moving? and this wasnt answered before, if im running a T-56 with a vss signal from a 93 camaro, and i put it in a 92 z28 (with richmond 3.73 rear gears and the correct coalating gears for the spedo) with a vss signal will i have to change the spedo gears or will it work out ok?
thanks all
