Borg-warner ????

I currently have a 10 bolt open rear end in my car with drum brakes, I had a guy give me B-W 9 bolt the other day. its in pretty bad shape, it doesn't have any brake hardware on it and one axle has been pulled out. I hve the axle which has been sitting outside for a while, I guess I can clean up the axle and the housing and install new bearings and seals in the housing. my question is: will the drum setup from my 10 bolt bolt to the 9 bolt and if so what mods will I have to make.

I really need a strong posi rear end to accomodate the 412 with about 450 hp. thats going to go in in the spring.

I seriously doubt that a 9 bolt is going to be any stronger than a 10 bolt.

The one main thing that brakes these rear ends with serious torque (same boat w/400FPT) is heavy launces with lots of traction.

I can't tell you weather the brake hardware will bolt up, but hell man you have both the 10 & 9 bolts sitting in front of you

If the ends of the 9 bolt axle tubes look like this, than it should.

Personaly I would stick with the 10 bolt, and drop in some Richmond gears, get to the junk yard & buy a Posi carrier or get a HP aftermarker Posi, and a Summit Reinforced diff- cover.

You evidently don't know the design differences betweeen a 9 bolt and a 10 bolt (no flames intended). The 9 bolt is claimed to be as strong as a Dana 44 (The article is at www.9bolt.com along with other 9 bolt facts.) I've been running a 9 bolt for 4+ years now behind my 500hp/520lbft big block 88 Camaro with no problems (1.72-1.75 60 fts). I have sold parts to people runnings a lot better than that!!!

thanks for the reinforcement on the strength of the 9 bolt, I figured that out as soon as I saw the internals of that thing. I am still wondering about the brake situation, I hate the idea of having to pull the stuff off of my 10 only to find that it wont mate to the 9 bolt, any pre swap info would be appreciated.

my guess is that it will not fit up without some modifications to the backing plate as they are very different ,look around the junk yards for the brake bits and convert to disc rear

Dang, I didn't know they were that strong! I was allways told they were a little stronger, but not by much.
