Tranny Help
Ok, i checked some other posts out, and did some searches, but now i have an understanding of how a hypocondriac with a flu must feel like.
Any how, i was driving my Iroc all day, and had no real problems with the transmission. Then, on the way to work, i stop at wa-wa, get my stuff, head out, and my car starts acting funny. I get good acceleration all the way up to 30, but then it won't shift at all. I tried dropping it into drive, but still no shift. Finally, it seems like it shifts, but the car just revvs and revvs but dosen't really accelerate, or deccelerate... it just keeps crusing down (kinda like when the clutch is slipping on a manuel).
From other posts, i would think that the tranny is shot, but i'm wondering if it seems like the clutches, or if it might be a mechanical part. I can't figure out how the car would would be ok one second, then not work 5 minutes later. I am pretty much coming to the conclusion that i'm going to have to drop the tranny to fix this, and i'm thinking that i might want to attempt a rebuild.
Well, luckily i have parts car sitting with another 700-r4 in it, and i guess i might need to swap it for a bit, but dropping one used tranny for another just won't cut it forever. So, if anyone has any idea where i should start looking for the problem, and what parts i should start buying for a good rebuild, any help would be appriciated. Also, what info or books might be recomended for rebuilding... i have the 89 service manuel, and i guess most of the repairs would be included in that.
Well, thanks ahead of time for any help.
BTW, the car is an 1989 Iroc with the 700-R4 tranny and Borg-W rear.

Maybe the TV cable is out of adjustment..try this.
GM 700R4 Throttle Valve Cable Adjustment
1. Remove air cleaner on vehicles with carb or TBI.
2. Depress lock tab down on TV cable and push cable all the way forward towards carb or injector.
3. Have someone sit in vehicle and depress gas pedal to the floor so it's at WOT (Wide Open Throttle). Hold it there for steps 4 and 5.
4. Now check to make sure the carb arm is bottomed out or has no more movement. If not, use a pair of Channel Locks to bend TV cable bracket until carb or injector arm no longer rotates.
5. Next, depress lock tap down and pull TV cable back (Pull HARD!) towards firewall or away from carb or injector until it stops and then release the tab.
6. Use a pocket knife or hacksaw blade to mark the cable in front of the snout. This is MAX TV.
7. After marking Max. TV depress lock tab and push cable forward toward carb or injector 1/8'' of an inch. Make a mark in front of snout. This is Minimum TV.
8. Set cable back to Max. TV and Road Test.
Road Test: Super Important
First thing to check on road test is for Detent. Here's how- Make a very light throttle or minimum throttle 1-2 upshift. As soon as it shifts, floor the throttle. The transmission MUST shift back to 1st gear. If it doesn't you need more T.V.
Note
Most Diesels and V8's will work best at Max. TV to 2 clicks away. 4 cyl and V6's will work best at 2 to 4 clicks away from Max.
hope this works for ya.

Ok.... i pulled the governer... and the gear looks ok to me. Its a green plastic gear, and looks like it has little/no wear on it. The springs are still in tact... the weights are there... everything looks like its in perfect order. No burrs or rought spots anywhere. The valve seems to move freely in the sleeve. Anything else i should check before i put it back?
IF this isn't it... what else could it be? I'm thinking a sticking 1-2 valve... or bad 2-4 band, or maybe the servo? ARgh!!
