T-56 guys with mech. speedos, options?
I FINALLY after almost two years just started reassembling my iroc-z. It actually looks like a car again!
I was wiring in some new hardware and cut the shifter hole and added the master/slave when I realized I haven't yet figured out the way I'm going to fix my speedo. I still have a stock 145 speedo in my '86(well maybe not stock...), along with the tach.
I like the factory speedo and tach but I have a 5" black sportcomp tach I could replace the factory one with, that matches my existing aftermarket gauges.
Have you found it cheaper/easier to replace the in-dash speedo? Add an electric box? Or convert your T-56 to a gear-driven unit? Please excuse me if this is a repeat thread as I have been absent from the site for awhile, but I didn't see a related topic.
Money is kind of an object since I have a ton of money invested in the car so far...if it makes a difference, the car is an '86 Z 383 TPI with a '95 tranny and 3.73's.
How have you mechanical speedo swap guys handled your conversion?

there is the JagsThatRun kit but all you get are the parts. You have to still get the tailhousing modifed - they won't do it. There is no bolt-on kit for a mech. cable for the T56. I just had my tailhousing machined for the kit and was charged $80 on top of the $200 price of the kit. The hard think about the kit was finding a shop who'd take it on because it's a little on the messy side, as in a PITA for the shop.
The elctronic speedo is another option but I never got mine to work correctly. I think somewhere down the modding line I messed it up....out $200.

Anyone install 5" gauges in their factory dash, to replace the tach and speedo?
