Can I build a TH700R4 to absorb 497 ft lbs of torque@4,400 RPM?

I am preparing to install a 406" SBC in my ,82Z28 project car.

I want to use the TH700R4 transmission. Can "I" build one to absorb 497 ft lbs of torque at 4,400 RPM w/3000 stall converter on the street? No drag racing!

I also plan to test the car at VIR for kicks. This is training for road racing.

Thanx,ANDYZ28

Probably so. They make hardened input shafts, super strong Reaction sun shells that utilize a thrust bearing instead of a washer, 5 pinion input planetaries and a 5 pinion reaction planetary. Most of those parts have been rated up to 800 ft/lbs of torque. I have dealt first hand w/ all of that stuff, and I really like it, but its pricey.

It depends on which 3,000 rpm stall torque converter you are going to use? What is the diameter?, does it have lockup?, etc. I have not seen 4 pinion planets ever being a problem, even in my high 10 & low 11 second vehicles. I am using the late washer type sunshell from GM without problems going on 2 years. I am sure that the later GM HD parts are good, but as of now I am not having any problems, so the extra money that this would cost, I would have to charge the customer, I cannot justify it as of right now.

I am planning to build a 1990 transmission, and use the B&M "HloeShot 3000" converter. But no drag racing.

I will be running a 3.42 rear.

All my past experience with B&M..... Save your money & get a "quality" torque converter, A.C.T., Vigilante, Continental, etc. Do not cut corners on the torque converter. If you plan on road racing this unit?, then the above TC's would work well. If I can be of help?, call me at 800 7763288 M-S 10-6 PST.
