Another Stupid problem

Ok, heres the sitiation. My shifter cable isnt exactly broke. It goes to the bracket and connects to the tranny. Thats good. I can shift From p->R->N->D->2->1. But i cant go back. The cable jumps off the bracket. I checked on another car and there is a clip holding it there, it looks like it is plastic and connected to the cable itself, and i tried to take it off and couldn't. Do you guys think I need a whole new cable? Thanks

Either a new one, or a junkyard one... you mean the clip at the trans shift lever? Or a clip holding the cable to the pan bracket?
