Quick Change rears

Has anyone ever thought of using a quick change rear (like those found in dirt late models and sprint cars) Some of these motors are pushing 750 horsepower and some of those rears are made of magnesium. I was just wondering if anyone had thought of or done this before.

wouldn't work well on the street since it's a spool set up and not a posi. plus you'd have to weld on all the brackets for the car it was going in and torque arm for a thirdgen f body.

They do make Detriot lockers for them, and Diamond tracks (seems to be much like a posi for classes that can't have a "locked" rear) and the like. I was just thinking, I have a ford 9 laying here and I already have to cut it up and weld all the brackets onto it. By the time I pick up all the parts I'd probably end up in roughly the same ball park either way, plus I'd have the ease of adjustability of the quick change. Although it's true they do have heat problems unless used with a sump and oil cooler. Thanks for the reply I was just curious if anyone else had put thought into that.

well i didn't know a quick change could be set up like a posi, but i'm no roundy round fan. i thought they were all locked rears. still i ithnk a 9" would be by far the wiser way to go.

You can get one for 1500-2500 depending on options. They are truly modular, everything is replaceable or adjustable. Even the axle tubes unbolt. Winters and Frankland are 2 companies that make them. My freind has an open wheel asphalt car (2600lbs, 450+hp on 15" wide slicks) the rear end has been used for about 15 years without a single failure or rebuild
