Late Third Gen Shift Indicator?

What year third gen has the shift indicator? My boyfriend had a '86 Firebird and he thought that there was something wrong or broken with the shift plate and it was not showing the gear that you were in. Even the dealer where he bought the car thought it was missing. The Dealer ordered another console and the one that came in was either a 90,91 or 92. They said that they could only order the current one that GM was producing at the time. When it came is was much different. The lettering was mostly orange and the background was gray and white. It had an orange indicatgor that slid over the gear position. He has not seen that type/style shifter in any car since, not even his 1992 TransAm.

Does anyone know what year that would have been from and does anyone have it?

I have a 90 model gta and I don't seem to have an indicator either. My cars only got 43000 on it and was well taken care of so I don't think the previous owner did anything to it. I think I remember someone on the interior board mentioning this. you might try a search there. hope this helps.
