I did this swap not to long ago. These are the things that I had to have:
1. You need the TH-350
2. You need the drivshaft out of a '82 automatic
3. You need the B&M adapter kit
4. You also need the x-member out of that same '82
5. You will also need to reuse your shifter cable mount thing off your old 700r4
Thats all I needed. It would be a good idea to replace your transmision mount, as yours is probubly old and wore out.
Good Luck

i heard if i get a longshaft TH350 i can keep my driveshaft
so was yours a short shaft tranny?
or did i just hear some bs?

Yeah, mine was the short one. So I just used the one out of the same car I got the x-member out of.
What year/model car do you have? Im not sure what people do with their elec speedos. Mine is a '86 so its a cable.

I'm confused on the B&M tranny kit. What exactly does it do, does it only allow you to mount the torque arm? The guy at JEG'S told me it also allows you to use the stock 700r4 crossmember. What's the deal?

The B&M or Hurst 350 changeover brackets attach to the back of the tail of the trans around 3 of the 4 tail bolts. What it does is allows the torque arm to be mounted to the side of the bracket (the way it's attached to the side of the trans on the 700), and it re-locates the position of where the trans mount goes so that you can still use your transmount and x-member. It's very simple and easy to use, you shouldn't have a problem. Here's the part # for the B&M kit on jegs. Just put it in the search for part at the top of the page at jegs.com 130-30299 Good Luck
Sorry to be so repetetive, but all that is needed for a 700r4 to 350 transmission swap (I happen to own an '83 Z28,) would be either the B&M or Hurst kit, and the longshaft tranny?
If this is true, which kit is the better way to go? I see the Hurst kit comes with vacuum lines or something, is this necessary? Are the brackets strong to hold up? (Will they tend to twist, or be weaker than a stock setup?)
Thanks even though I didn't start the post, but I'm very interested in it too (my car is sitting in the garage w/ a blown 700r4, need to do something quick!) hehe

Yeah, so long as you have a 9" tail 350 and not a 6" tail 350 you can use the same driveshaft. So basically all you need is the transkit, and then a different torque converter which fits the 350 cuz they are different for the 700's.

You need the vaccum lines because the TH350 needs manifold vaccum for the modulator valve to upshift. You'll also need a detent cable bracket for the carb since the 700R4's bracket is different. The bracket may be in the kit also.
The long tailshaft TH350 is close enough in length to the 700R4 that you can reuse the driveshaft.
