how much hp can 700r4 and 7.5 10bolt handle

how much hp can 700r4 and 7.5 10bolt handle

I am trying to find out if i need to upgrade my trans and rearend before my engine. i am getting a 383 putting out 550hp and 570 ft lbs. thanks for any help

It should handle about 350-400hp with no problem.Anything more is questionable for the 700r without a beefy rebuild.The rearend can take about 500hp give or take if it isn't abused everyday.

Transmission: Powerglide
Axle/Gears: Ford 9"/31 spline spool/4.86
The stock 7.5" I don't know but I ran one that was beefed up as per the tech article (Ultimate 10 bolt). I went as quick as 11.24 at 121 mph.

I only switched to a 9" when I added a transbrake. I didn't think the 7.5" could take more than one hit off the transbrake.

Car: 87 GMC sierra classic
Engine: fresh 350, minor mods (its been de-emissioned too)
Transmission: professionally re-built 700R4, REALLY hard shifts & bigger clutch packs
DAMN!! Thats one stout 383!:rockon: I never wouldve thought a 7.5" could handle a run that quick, but i guess so. I would upgrade to at least a 12 bolt.
