3 quarts in my 9_bolt, and still going

I added 3 quarts in my 9 bolt in the little spout on the passengers axle. It still needs more to be full. Should I add a 4th bottle? I hear it only needs 1 3/4 quarts, but I have gone 3 and it still hasn't overflowed yet.

I didn't fill it in the diff cover. Like I said I used the axle fill. The rear is out of the car right now. What happens if I have added too much fluid?

Make sure you don't have the rear upside down......I'm serious........it'll make it take ALOT more oil than normal.

you should use the plug in the rear cover and fill it till it runs out. 2 quarts of oil is about right.

The "little spout" is the vent tube... you're not supposed to fill it near that full...

Fill it through the rubber plug on the cover. It should take somewhere around 2 quarts.

You'll have to drain it all and start over as you are filling the axle tubes, not the differential. Use the plug on the rear cover, NOT the vent tube on the axle.

so, did it not fill the diff too? I think that it still filled the pumpkin, but because I had it tilted, it took much more than it is supposed to.

There is probably very little fluid in the diff area except for some that squeezed through the carrier bearing and/or between the axle splines and the axle gear & brake cone.
