Need help with TBI 700R4 shift characteristics
I have just purchased a 91 RS camaro with TBI 305 trans I have a 350 engine, flattops, vortech heads, 650 Double pump and a pile of other pieces leftover from my 89 firebirds ventures to 11's. Anyway I have done a few of these cars the TPI trans works great with this type of power and RPMS. I did one with a TBI trans with a shift kit and the car would go sideways on the 1-2 shift and just seemed to slip or you had to back out for 2-3 shift. What is the best way to firm this trans up for 1-2-3 firm shifts? Any help you guys can give will be appreciated.
First, you do not the 1-2 shift to make the car go sideways, a chirp at best. Second, the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit will address the 2-3 & 3-4 WOT shifts with good success. The 3-4 clutches have to be in good shape for this to happen.
Well the car had 4;10 gears and a 400 SB so traction was non-existant with street tires. but like I said the 2-3 shift was really messed up. I had a B&M transkit a GER converter(yes now I know they are junk) an anti-kickdown valve a billet servo all mods just tightened up the 1-2 shift. You have used this kit and it tightens up the 2-3 shift? someone told me I would need to replace a spring in the valvebodies and the valvebodies between the TBI and TPI have completely diferent springs and such. Oh well any info is better than none.
