How much Trans Fluid Should Leak Out When Removing Driveshaft?
I just pulled the driveshaft out of the transmission, and a pretty steady stream of trans fluid started spilling out. Luckily I got a bucket underneath pretty quickly... but I was a bit surprised at the amount.
The GM service manual I have doesn't at all mention trans fluid leaking out in their driveshaft removal instructions.
My Chilton's manual says "don't be alarmed if a small amount of transmission fluid leaks out" (I love the way they mention that AFTER the steps; thanks for the warning AFTER the fluid leaks all over the floor).
Anyway, I've got about an inch or so of trans fluid in a gallon ice cream bucket... is this normal, or did I break a seal, or have too much fluid in the transmission?
Oh, and the car was level.
