why is the ford t-5 so much stronger?

ok guys i got to thinkin and started wonderin why the t-5 they put in mustangs was so much stronger then the t-5 in our cars. i mean they where both made by the same company and both called t-5's so wuts the deal. did GM go cheap and have them make them weaker or wut? also wut can a ford t-5 stand up to?

It's not stronger. I can't imagine where that rumor came from. Go take the apart side by side some time. The shafts are all the same diameter, the case the same thickness, the gears the same except for the ratios, etc. They use the same bearings and other load-handling soft parts.

The cars are lighter, and don't hook up very well, which keeps the shock loading on the trans lower than it is in our cars. That's the only possible reason they could last longer, everything else inside the boxes is the same.

they also don't have that torque arm trying to lift up on them. i have heard rumors, that our problem is related to case flex due to the arm. in addition to what rb said

They're not stronger. They just last longer in a car that doesn't make any torque (Ford 302).

Its obviously a torque issue. How many 350TPI cars rolled off the showroom floor with a 5 speed. None. The 305 had em but they didnt have enough torque to break them. The 350 on the other hand....
