HELP ME, problem with day old clutch.

So, I go to my mechanic, new clutch is in, flywheel resurfaced, everything like throwout bearing pilot bearing has been replaced, etc.

I get in, **** man, what a difference. The clutch is like a feather it was so easy to push down. It releases right at the bottom (ie, i push the clutch down, release about 1 millimetre and the car already starts rolling). It drives 100x more awesome than before, and I even notice a big increase in power...

BUT... here is my problem. I rolled down the windows, and I hear this non-stop sound when I am driving. It's in between a stream of whistle/ticks together. It's coming from the tranny area.

You hear the tick/whistle (it's like a ticstle, mix of both) sound whenever the car is moving. You hear it whenever the clutch is NOT pushed down. IE: I start the car, I hear the sound if I just accelerate in neutral. I push the clutch down, sound goes away. I put the car in 1st, let go of the clutch and start driving, the sound returns. It stops once I put the clutch down and shift to 2nd, then it starts again.

I asked my mechanic, the first one didn't know. He is like "It sounds like the pilot bearing but we replaced that so it can't be". Then the boss mechanic said "the sound will go away in a couple of days don't worry about it, the parts just have to get worked in".

He said if it doesn't go away come back next week.

I hope it's nothing major. Any ideas?

new parts don't have to equate to good parts, especially if you got them from a discounter like autozone, but i have put in a could of autozone clutch kits with no problems. it may very well wear in after a few days. i'd sure give it a chance before i took it apart again.

LOL, you'll probably be back in a week

Sounds to me like the throwout bearing might be bad. Did they put a new one in? I see this alot on the NV3500 series manual transmissions. The bearing goes bad and makes a similar type noise that you describe, but once you push the clutch in, it loads the bearing and the noise is gone.

The throw out bearing sounds like the culprit to me also. The new ones tend to be noisy for a while also. I have been told to soak the new throw out bearing in oil for a day or so, and they will be super quiet. I dunno if it works, but I am gonna do it on the next throw out bearing in the race car.

Can't say I've ever had a new one do that. I have always put a new one in because it made that noise...
