Ford 9" and 10 bolt sitting around..
I have 2 rear ends sitting around:
one is a 10 bolt which is all rusty and needs new *everything*. Its out of my 87 camaro. the pumpkin is empty.
the other is a 1965(55?) ford 9" Rear end from a truck. Its huge and heavy and im sure needs a ton of work to fit in my 83 camaro.
I currently HAVE a 9 BOLT rear end in my 83', 2.77 gear ratio and disc brakes and a worn out posi.
Should I:
Fix up my 9 bolt...
Fix up the 10 Bolt...
Fix up the 9"...
Or Find a different 10/9 bolt all together and use it.
thanks!

Find another project.
10 bolt: Needs too much
9": Measure it first to see how wide it is. Truck diffs are too wide for a third gen but the mid 60's might not be.
9 bolt: Since it has a series 2 carrier, building it up could get pricey since so much needs to be changed but out of the three it might be your best bet since it already has disk brakes.
Since all 3 diffs need a lot of work to build them up for performance, you're better off just looking for another donor that has more in it to start with.

Geez 9 bolt parts are expensive! and 9" parts are even more expensive! and 10 bolt parts get real expensive too! *** rear ends are expensive! Holy crap!
One of my friends said maybe I should find a thirdgen 10 Bolt in a junk yard, Pull it, and replace the Bearings, Limited slip differential, ring/pinion, and Housing Cover And it should cost maybe $500-600 and be pretty good and strong for my non-transbraked non-slicked(yet), blown thirdgen? Im thinking as long as I dont hook ill be ok... lol...
Does this seem reasonable? Or should I just get a junkyard rear end, leave it "open" and throw a ring/pinion in it and drive it till it blows then
Lather, rinse, repeat
every time one blows?

Putting a new series 3 posi carrier, gear set and install kit for the 9 bolt is ~$820. A lot cheaper than a 9 inch or 12 bolt and much stronger than a 10 bolt. Of course I have a biased opinion too
