front seal

I was told that my transmission front seal went out. The transmission will not hold any fluid. The transmission in overdrive will only shift to second on the redline and I can't get it to shift to third at all. But if I drop it back to second it will shift 1st to 2nd fine. but I still can not get it into 3rd gear. I have a 85 camaro with a 2.8. any info will help I am open to any suggestions. Can the front seal keep it from shifting?

no fluid and no hydrolic preasure will keep it from shifting. hard for me to believe a leaking front seal would allow you to loose all your fluid that quickly.

Not thirdgen but it is a 700R4. I have a 84 GMC Jimmy and I blew the front pump seal. I have replaced it and then all of a sudden poof a cloud of white smoke (very big cloud). Trans fluid was just pouring out. I found out the seal actually was pushed out of the pump and just sitting on the t.c. shaft. Make sure you have the retainer on it if this is the case and get with probuilt to properly fix this if your doing this yourself.
