2 ways:
Don't use all the power. Or get some other trans.
The shafts, gears, etc. in there are simply too small for that sort of load; and the case will not hold the gears together.
You can make it last a little while by avoiding high-RPM clutch dumps or trans brake on slicks, and speed shifting. Those 2 things will take one out with 150 HP. If this is a nitrous situation or something like that, your odds are a little better, since it will only be subjected to the abuse occasionally.

That's great advice. The #1 KILLER of ALL transmissions ( stick or slushbox ) is owner ( or previous owner as the case may be ) abuse and lack of maintenance.
Will a T5 hold up behind 650 HP? Depends...is that 650 anytime HP or just with nitrous ( like mentioned )...
Are you going to drag race it? Do you like to try and speedshift?
I've seen T5's hold up behind 450 + HP without major problems, and I've seen T5's bite the dust behind the small, underpowered V6 cars, and stock 305's. Depends HEAVILY on how it's taken care of, and mainly how good OR bad the driver is....

If it has to be a T-5, the "TKO" is about the only thing that I would consider. But as RB83L69 said......
