2nd gear sucks from a roll...

Ok i am doubting this is a problem, but it bothers me so i will say something just in case. From a dead stop if i flog it she goes right on up through all the gears nice fast and with no hesitation. Now if i am at about 30mph (yes i have adjusted tv cable) it just kind up starts to run up just not real quick until and est. 3500 or so (tach will run to well over 7k on a wot shift so its all estimates) and then it seems to wake up and start to run like it should. Like i said i think this is probably normal but it bugs me, mostly because if i want to accel now i need to either brake or be going faster already in 2nd. (91 rs 5.0 700r4 81,000miles no mods) So what do you think, just poor gearing, or is there actually a problem. It doesn't hesitate it just seems like its trying to accel in 4th even though its kicked down into second.

You're in the wrong gear! You're bogging the motor down real bad. It wouldn't be noticable with a strong torquey motor, but you have a stock 305 TBI. The trans is forcing 2nd gear before it's needed.

With the RS and the auto you got 2.73 gears right? At 30MPH you should be in 1st gear at full throttle. Unfortunately that's not the way the stock 700R4 works. Most auto trannys will not shift into first gear from from a 30-40 MPH roll (depending on rear gear). That's just the way it is. If you don't like it, you can manually shift down into 1st gear.

BTW - I have a Darrell Young trans in my car and punching it from 30-35 the car will bog down a little. I ALWAYS manually shift my car at WOT.

As it stands the only thing you can do is manually kick it down with the shifter.

Of course if you have a nice high stall torque converter it's alot less of a problem. Makes it impossible to bog the engine because no matter what gear you're in, it's always in the power band.
