Running at really low RPM's

My automatic is running at about 1000 rpm's, it it changes gears at usually 1500 depending on how much gas i'm giving, but sometimes it is running slowly at about 700, this cant be good for the car. Am I wrong? Is there anything I can do about this? Any kind of help is great! Thanks!

i dont think it will hurt the car, but i am sure you want more rpms to play with...

can you manual go into gears at a higher rpm??
how about when your are in overdrive what happens when you stomp the gas pedal?
has it always done this?

both when i'm idling and driving, one time my front 2 wheels were on a speed bump and i was stopped, i watched it go well below 500rpm, then it just cut out. When I stomp on it in overdrive it doesnt usually dont feel it kick into a lower gear, unless i'm going about 60, it usually just goes faster. I've only had the car about a month, and yes it has always done this.
