vette tranny... different??

I picked up a 700r4 from a "87 vette" and got it home and while comparing it to my 700 out of an 87 firebird, I noticed the tailhousing on the back of the tranny is different.... then I noticed the BIG difference, the case casting doesnt even have holes for the transmission mount, and the tailshaft doesnt have holes in it for the tourque arm. Am I missing something, or do I have a completely useless tranny on my hands?

you can always try to swap the tailshaft, its only held on with 4 bolts, while its off you might as well swap the speedo gears.

the speedo gear was easy to do, I did that already, but the place where the mount screws in on my fbird tranny isnt even there on the corvette one..... that is my main concern.... at first I thought it might be a place that could be put on or off with the tail, but it is a part of the casting.....

As already stated, you need to just swap the old tail shaft from the old tranny to the vette tranny if you still have it. And don't forget that it you do run the F-body tail shaft, you need to make sure that you hook the speedo drive gear to the most forward hole on the output shaft.

It is missing the cross member mount holes, it is apx. 1" shorter in length. It is not going to interchange.

Is there any model 700r4 tailhousing that doesn't have the tq arm provision, but has provisions to mount to the stock crossmember?

whoops, read it wrong, the vette tranny will not work with a different tailhousing because it is indeed shorter and the holes for the tranny mount are on the case itself

Forgive my ignorance, but i'm not too fimiliar with valve bodies. I assume this means that they are not interchangable, and the only tailshaft that can be used on a third gen would be the one that originally came with the car?
