Swapping an 80's vette 4+3 manual w/ engine into an f body

My friend wrecked his vette yesterday, i was wondering if i can put his transmission into an f body w/ his engine. This wont go into my car if he gives a reasonable offer but into a project car. That is a Doug Nash overdrive unit, My '84 Vette had that and it is very maintenance intensive. Also, you will need the computer to control the overdrive (I think). These transmissions always had a bad rap because most people that had them didn't do required maintenance and they broke. They are VERY expensive to repair/replace, however, now they are also very rare. The 4x3 was a gas mileage gimmick (I believe), mine worked OK but the overdrive was very tempermental, I do not know how they would react to more horsepower than the cars actually came with. Might be better to go with the tried and true T56. The 4x3 would probably be good for awhile but headaches may follow, lots of tranmission shops won't even touch them. If I was in your situation I would put the tranny on Ebay and sell it to a person that had one in his vette and wants to replace his, you might get an excellent price and then pick up a T56. I havn't heard of one of these in an F-body, it might be alot of work. Good luck.

Thanks, I heard bad things about them, but I was just curious. I dont have an F body to swap it into, as my 3.1 w/ automatic runs good when I get it to start, it still has a lot of life in it. I thought he'd sell it to me and I could swap it into an 85 z w/ a tired engien or something.
