RPM problem
RPM problem
I've got an 87 camaro 305 V-8 automatic, and i just use it for commuting between home and school/work, no real racing. I know its fast, but i just havent had the time or money to do anything special untill now.
I've had it for about 2 years, about 130,000 miles on it. I just had the catalitic converter replaced a couple of days ago, and along with that i got a tuneup.
Since in had this done, it runs great. It usually shifts between 2000-2500 RPMs from 1-2 and 2-3, and a little lower from 3-4. When its running cold, it shifts just fine, but when its warmed up it does something funny.
It'll shift from 1-2 2-3 just fine. In third gear at about 31 mph it'll be at around 1250 rpm. Then just as it passes 31 mph the rpms will drop off about 250 to 1000. It still accelerates fine from there, and at about 35-37 mph it'll go into fourth normal. It then accelerates to about 40 at 1300 rpms, and it does it again....dropping down to about 1000 sometimes a little lower.
I've found that if i tap the gas a little it will correct itself for a couple of seconds and cruise at around 1250 rpms, but they soon drop off again down to 1000.
I'm not much of a mechanic myself, so i dont really have a clue at where to start. I've cruised to boards, and found that this is probably the best place anywhere to start.
