Dumb ? about shifting an auto
ok newbie driver here and i just wanted to make sure that it's ok to shift the gears manually in an auto trans car right? i just start out all the way down in 1st and go up from there right? i just wanted to check so i don't mess the trans up! and any tips/tricks on how to do this good? thanks

Its fine to manually shift your automatic transmission just dont go overboard holding shifts way past the point where your engine makes power. The best thing to do is get a governer calibration kit so you can program your transmission to automaticly shift at the points where your engine makes peak power.

I wouldn't suggest shifting all the time. Try a search, I forget the reason, I believe the line pressure is raised and over time that can be bad, but every now and then should be fine.

i have an 85 with overdrive. it's not running yet but i want to practice on my sis's 98 cavalier. her car goes 1-2-3-D so i just thought it would be fun and don't want to wreck anything :lala:
