Driveshaft Question
How important is it to get the driveshaft back in, in the exact location that it came out? Im just trying to figure out whats whining in my rear my driveline somewhere, when i let my foot off the accelerator it begins to whine. I poped the diff cover checked the bearings n all looked okey. its a 9 bolt ausi with 3.27's when i replaced the u-joints i took the drive shaft all the way out and i dont think that i got it back into its original spot. Is it critical to get the right splines in the right spot?

Maybe I've just had 14 years of dumb luck, but I never marked it before removal and where ever it goes in, it goes. Really should'nt be a problem since the driveshaft itself is balanced. Sounds like your pinion depth or wear on ring and pinion might be the source.
I'd bet that it's the bushing in the rear of your trans (where the driveshaft going in). Pull your driveshaft and inspect the end that goes into the tranny. if there are any lines or scratches..there's your problem.
it could be the pinion nut i think thats what it is called...
i replaced the pinion seal on my moms astro van, it stopped leaking fluid but now wines when i let off the gas.. i dont think i tighten the nut up enough, but i didnt want to crush the new bushing/bearing i had put in it..
that could be your problem, i think even if the ds was put in a diff. way then came out it would vibrate not wine..
or are you using the right rear end fluid with the posi addivtive
