What gears should i go with? right now its a carb'd 350 basically stock w/5spd, i just picked up a complete tpi setup and am gonna save for some vortec heads before i do the swap...with the future swap in mind and knowing that i have to drive it everyday i was think of 3.42 or 3.55 every1 says 3.73 but i think thats to much gear for me right now...

 

I was debating between the 3:42 and the 3:73 myself. I chose the 3:42's and I havent looked back. I have a mild TPI w/ stock cam and the 700R4. I believe that the 5sp has a real similar OD ratio.

Anyways, I run a 13.94 @ 103 and all that a 3:73 would do for me is spin the tires more off the line. I have enough trouble getting the 3:42 to hook up. If you go with a big cam and a short runner intake, you may want to go w/ the 3:73 though.

Going from 2:73's to 3:42's dropped my 1/4 by almost .5 sec and added about 8 mph.

 

thanks i was leaning more towards 3.42s for a daily driver, when i put on the tpi and new heads im gonna go with prob around a .480 lift cam or so...nothing to major...what all do you have done to your car to run 13s with the stock cam and tpi?

 

I have most of the cheap mods done. I ran the 13.94 w/ Ported cast iron heads, ported plenium, TB airfoil, ported MAF, K&N's, 50 psi fuel press, serpintine conversion, elderbrock headers and cat-back, converter!, 4th gen aluminum driveshaft, 3:42 torsen diff. and boxed suspensionn components. Stock chip, and cam. (Bald a$$ tires got me a 2.2 60' )

I've since added a ported base, and Slp runners with -2.5" divider, SFC's, and LCA lowering brackets.

The next thing I do is a 730 computer conversion and prom tuning. I think I can run at least 13.7 with good tires and tuning.
