Well, the tranny died

I'm guessing the borg-warner T-5 with 150,000 miles on it didn't like the new engine combo, what with the 420 ftlbs of torque and all. I was racing a friend of mine the other day, and on a hard launch (for street tires that is) it popped out of first gear. I brought the car home, intending on changing the fluid, and never got around to it. Well last night i start it up to go have some fun and back out of my driveway. Put it in first gear and as soon as i let the clutch out a little bit it pops out of gear. No amount of force on the shifter will hold it in gear. Does the same thing in second, and in fifth. I had to put it in third and slip the clutch to get it back up into the driveway. All in all the tranny lasted about 2 weeks behind the new setup. I guess it's not bad though, i mean it did have a 150000 miles on it, a good 30k or so of which was behind 360 ftlbs of torque (old setup).

So thats the bad news, now onto the good news. i found a t56 with 30000 miles and everything i need for the swap except the clutch and the crossmember. I'm gonna give the guy a call tomorrow and try to make a deal with him...

Just out of curiousity, what broke that would cause the tranny to act like that? I was thinking the synchros in those 3 gears, but don't synchros usually wear out over time? this was more or less sudden.

One more thing, if i already have a t-5 clutch pedal in the car, can i use that one, or do i have to swap pedals for the t56?

Eric

Syncros, but forks and other parts will have to be replaced to make it work right.
I wouldn't bother.
Put the T56 in.
