setting pinion angle

OK... I understand to set the pinion angle 1-2* below transmission angle. Now here is the problem, I want to get the rolling chasis done... weld in the ladder bars, frame etc. with the engine and tranny out of the car. How do I go about setting it this way?

well... from other boards and chat room the answer I get was "cant do it". I'd hate to mount the engine and tranny just to pull it back out. Buddy has a race car builder over here and he said to just mount it straight, but that just doesnt sound right. Maybe it can be adjusted with the front mounting plate bolt holes?

i've read and saw a lot on here and other places about it matters and it doesn't if the engine and transare in or not. if it were me i'd wait for the engine and trans, or find a old block or something close to the weight of a engine trans combo to replicate the weight before i welded any of the suspension parts or set pinion angle. i did weld in my SFCs without a engine or trans, but to me that's a bit differant.

Got a reply from a Pontiac board. set the pinion straight, mount the lower bar of the ladder level. then use the lower adjuster bar to fit it in. That and the three holes in the front mount should get me there... What do you think?
