Torque converter Question

Could a bum torque converter cause the car not to shift? It only works in reverse and first gears. Also could the TV cable be so far out of adjustment that the car wont shift at all?

Unfortunately, its not your converter. It sounds like you have a bad clutch pack. Time for a full rebuild.

Check out your governor. It may have a stripped gear or stuck
valve.

The problem is probable in the modulation system. Cars that had vaccum modulators would not shift out of first gear when the modulator went bad, or lost vaccum.

Check wiring on the 700R4. I believe it's solenoid mudulated?

Most likely a stripped governor gear.
