98+ T56 different than 94-97?

Just curious--all articles talk about the 93-97 t56s as "direct bolt-ins." Did they change designs in 98, or will they work as a swap in as well?

Thanks

MILT

Yes they are different. The bellhousing, clutch, and input shaft were changed to accomodate the LS1. Also, they are not as strong as the older ones that were used in LT1 F-bodies. I think that has to do with Borg-Warner changing to Tremec. I am told that you can change the parts and use a newer one, but I'd use an older one instead since you get the better sincro's and I believe the blocker rings were better quality. From experience my 96 T56 feels alot smoother than my 01 did.
