Difference between Axles??? Help.
Hey...I managed to come accross all the rear end "guts" (ring, pinion gear, posi unit etc) from brand new 2002 Chevy S10.
The question I have the hopefully someone on here can answer for me is what sort of difference is there in terms of the Axle shafts between the S10's and a 28 spline axle from a 3rd gen?
I imagine they are probably a little shorter, but does anyone have any insight???
Thanks

Hey Dave! Actually the axles in the S10 rear should be longer I think. I know that they were longer then my Montes axles anyways. I don't know if that helps?

The only axles that will fit in a third gen housing are from another third gen (or aftermarket ones). You can use all the "guts" but will need to find a set of 28 spline third gen axles.
www.tomsdifferentials.com has a nice set for $125 each. They're better than factory axles.
I'll sell you mine for $500 Canadian plus shipping from Calgary. Since I went to a 9" I don't need them any more.

I think I am going to have to just suck it up and look arround for a set.
I already have a set of 3rd gen axles pulled and sitting in my garage, so once I get the S10 axle shaft I am going to compare the 2 of them......also anyone know if any of the larger GM full sized cars etc may have axle shafts which I could use in a 3rd gen?? (28-spline of course) I was thinking something like a Roadmaster, etc, any older RWD cars.
