Rebuild tips for T-5 transmissions

Hi-

I'm getting ready to tear down my non-WorldClass T5 for a rebuild. Can anyone suggest what I need to be looking for during the rebuild that might indicate a problem or worn part? I already plan on replacing the synchro rings as I'm having to double-clutch sometimes when I go into first or reverse gears, plus replace my speedometer gear as I sometimes get erratic readings at low speeds.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

David

I would suggest buysing a rebuild kit from http://www.gearzone.net/ . It has everything you will need for a rebuild. Check every tooth on every gear for chips or heavy wear.
I am currently rebuilding my Borg warner T10 and I needed a press, though I'm not sure if you need one for the t5. Get some good snap ring pliers and rip her apart.

Already got the kit and the tools- I was just wandering tho if there was anything about the T5 that I would want to pay attention to while it's apart. Or, since I'm not rebuilding it to repair something that failed (it was running when I pulled it, just not very well), is ir just a matter of replacing the parts with those from the rebuild kit and I'm good to go?

I would highly recomend getting the video from Hanlon motorsports. It's $17, but worth it's weight in gold. It's geared (pun intended) more to the WC trans, but when I did my NWC it made it go 100% easier. And when I had a question that the video didn't cover, I left a message and Bob Hanlon called me back on a Saturday and talked me through that part of the rebuild. Can't get much better than that.

Do yourself a big favor, get the video.

I can also vouch for that, saved my butt a couple of times during my rebuild. It was my first one, and of course I was a nervous wreck about doing it at all.

Bob Hanlon and his wife are also 2 of the nicest humans on the planet! Veeerrrrrryyyyy helpful !!!!

Alloy - I've searched thru the board here for tips a while back and I've seen your recommendations for Hanlon Motorsports's tape. I emailed them though a few weeks ago about how much shipping for the tape would run so I could order it, but I never heard back from them....

I did all my communicating with them by phone. Email is too easy to blow off when you are busy. A ringing phone is hard to ignore.

Call them.
