The 5 pinion planet is still being debated on excessivness, 6 pinion is just overkill. Like Dana from ProBuilt points out, you usually don't see them fail from exessive load. All my experiences w/ failed reaction planetaries, have been from lack of lubriaction or the Torrington bearing failed and dispersed metal fragments between the precision cut gears. As far as the input planetary, I have only seen two fail, both in stock vehicles (1999 GMC Savana van, 1987 Camaro IROC) so its not like torque was a factor. There are many monstorous cars running safely w/ the stock 4-pinion.
