whistleing throw out bearing, i think i figure it out...

Hey guys back when I had my 305 in my car I put a new clutch in and had the flywheel cut. Now it always whistled after the install and after searching and talking on here I was convinced it was a junk throw-out bearing. So when I put my 350 in I bought a GM rollor piliot bearing and GM throw-out bearing. And of course it still whistles. And if I do a burnout or get on it real hard somtimes it won't go into 2nd gear and sometime just wont go into first at all for no reason. After pondering on this I thougth maybe bad syncros, then after pondering more I thought if it was syncros then it would be hard to get into gear all the time. Then about 3 days ago I started thinking maybe the clutch isn't engaging enough because as soon as I touch the pedel the whistleing goes away witch tells me that the throw out bearing isnt touching the pressure plate when the clutch is out and I have room for adjustment. So I started thinking more and realized be4 I did the clutch it never whistled, so I came to the conclusion that by getting my flywheel resurfaced I took material off it and therefore brought the whole clutch and pressure plate assembly forward a little bit resulting in the clutch fork and throw out bearing being farther away from it and thats why it whistles and I am not getting proper clutch engagment. So my solution is to file the belhouseing where the slave cylender mounts to it to bring the slave closer the the clutch fork so I get more movement. How does this soudn to everyone? Any insight on another way to get adjustment out of this stupid hydraulic setup? Thanks and good luck to anyone else haveing the same problem.

Sounds like you may have come across a solution, but I don't think I'd grind on the bellhousing like that. If you put a new flywheel on it down the road, you'll be trying to shim the slave cylinder.

However, They make shims to go between the crank and the flywheel to compensate for a machined flywheel. How much did they shave off? I'd think they would have to have removed alot to make that much of a difference. Napa sells them in .025" and .050"

I dunno how much they took off. well If I need to get a new flywheel later it will prob be a used one that will ned to be resurfaced anyways. What about that little white plastic thing on the end of the slave cylender, the part that actually goes into the divit on the clutch fork. coudl that be worn out ya think? I doubt i could buy a new one of them without buying the whole slave right?

i had the same problem, once the tranny grenaded, i tore it apart and discovered it was NOT the T.O. bearing, the input shaft bearing was actually the problem

do u mean the pilot bearing? its the one in the crank. well when i swaped engines i had a crappy brass one in there and it fell out of the crank when i took the trans out so that was def junk, but now i have a gm roller pilot bearing so i know its not that
