c-clip problem! Please Help!!

I have a big problem! The other night while going around a turn my axle slid out aboult a foot! Figuring that the c-clip broke, I got it towed home. When I pulled the cover off I found the c-clip at the bottom of the diff, unharmed, and in almost new condition. It just fell out. There are two springs missing from my posi unit. Could this have caused it to fall out, or did this happen when it fell out? I have two pictures of the rearend so you know what I am talking aboult. I have no experience with rearends and just don't want to be scammed by a shop. I'd like to go in there knowing what needs to be fixed. I think I need a new posi unit, but what else do you think it could be, as I don't want this to happen again!!

Has this been recently worked on? The C-clips are held in the seated position in the carrier by the axle. The only way for the C-clip to come out of the seated position is for the axle to slide inward. This is the job of the pinion shaft. Unless the pinion shaft is worn out, I can't see why the C-clip would pop out. The Posi PreLoad springs should have nothing to do with it.

Here's one of the pics. It was worked on aboult a year ago. I had 4.10 gears installed. Could they have installed the clip wrong? If they had, wouldn't have fallen out earlier?

i can't think of a reson the c clip would fall off without the pinion shaft having to come out. does the 4:10 gears require the reduced diameter pinion shaft? if so did the cross bolt break and allow the pinion shaft to rotate and the c clip to fall of the end of the axle?
